LEAGUE HISTORY
Growing the Game
OVGSL has a long history of growth across the Ohio Valley. In 2011, the league had 26 teams and more than 300 girls competing in three age divisions: 10U, 12U, and 15U.
In 2012, OVGSL added an 8U Coach Pitch division, welcomed additional communities, and grew to 33 teams with more than 300 players. By 2013, the league had grown to 37 teams across four divisions. In 2014, OVGSL reached 45 teams and more than 500 girls, and by 2016 the 8U Coach Pitch division alone had grown to 13 teams while the league remained at 45 teams overall.
HOW THE LEAGUE WORKS
Regular Season & Postseason
OVGSL traditionally holds a regular season of approximately 12–15 games followed by a postseason tournament for each age division, with trophies and medals awarded.
The spring regular season generally begins around the last weekend of April, with postseason play finishing around the final week of June. League scheduling is handled with consideration for the needs of participating communities. OVGSL works to minimize unnecessary travel and provide teams with a majority of their games in their local community whenever possible.
Umpires and field maintenance are the responsibility of the home team.

RULES & GOVERNANCE
Community-Driven Softball
OVGSL follows USA/ASA-style softball rules with league modifications designed to best serve its players and age divisions.
The league has voting representatives from participating communities who meet to discuss proposed league and rule changes. This community-based structure helps OVGSL balance competitive softball with the needs of local programs and, most importantly, the girls who play the game.
